The town of Oban and the surrounding area is bristling with things to do and see. Such a historic location means that there are of course many castles and standing stones to visit. McCraigs Tower overlooks the town and is well worth the short (if uphill!) walk from the town centre to see the view Oban has a cinema, theatre, amusement arcade, war and peace museum, Rare Breeds Park, mini zoo and sea life centre as some of the local attractions in or near the town to keep you busy. Alternatively see what the nightlife is like in Oban. Oban caters towards children, and because of this, the city has a number of fun things for families to do. Kids (and parents) who love animals will really enjoy a visit to The Oban Rare Breeds Farm Park. The Farm Park, located on 35 beautiful acres, is part of a working farm which raises sheep for commercial purposes. The park itself features rare and endangered breeds of farm animals which it works to preserve and educate visitors about. Visitors can see a variety of fancy rabbits and guinea pigs, angora goats, black swans and red deer. The park also features a tearoom where visitors can have a snack or a light lunch. Another fun Oban family destination is the Invenaray Jail Museum, a live, working museum created from a real 19th Century prison. At the museum kids can be tried in court and spend some time in a real jail cell. They can tour the building's old cells to see what they were like as well as visit the prison's airing yards, outdoor iron cages where prisoners were brought for daily exercise. Oban is full of sports activities for visitors to enjoy. Because of its beautiful natural scenery biking is popular among tourists and locals alike. The city has several bike shops where bikes can be rented by the day or week as well as a few tour companies that arrange group bike excursions to scenic locations. Golfing is also a popular activity in Oban and the city has a few nice courses to choose from. The Tourism Board recommends the Glencruitten Golf Club, a beautiful 18-hole course located on a hilly estate near the outskirts of town. Oban also counts boating among its list of fun outdoor activities and its proximity to the water and gorgeous sea shore makes this a great option. Sealife Adventures is a local company which takes visitors out on its boats to see puffins, whales and other wildlife and The Little Bay Luxury Boat Charter offers cruises and charters for boating along Scotland's west coast. Oban also offers visitors all sorts of shopping opportunities from the inexpensive to the high-end. The town's main shopping district on George Street features a variety of boutiques and cafes in a quaint, walk able outdoor setting Some of the popular items for sale in Oban include hand-crafted goods, jewelry and art. Locally made foods are also popular, making nice souvenirs or gifts for family members and friends back home. The Oban Art Gallery on John Street is a popular shop where visitors can browse or purchase painting and photographs made by local artists. Whatever the weather, you'll find something to fill your days and make your stay a memorable one
