Beautiful Village House in heart of Collioure France
This quaint 3 bedroom house in Collioure is so beautiful you wont want to leave . Collioure has endless possibilities for things to see and do. The largest of the nearby towns is Perpignan, and it includes numerous street markets and small shops in its old Arab quarter. The town is also home to several impressive medieval building including the Cathedral of St. Jean, with its pebble and red brick walls. The old town is also home to the Palais des Rois de Majorque, which is a 13th century citadel that was used as a summer residence by nobility during the Middle Ages. The tiny village of Elne is an old Celtic town that was once used as a staging point during Hannibal the Greatas campaign against Rome. There are some reminders of its Roman past, along with numerous medieval houses and other structures.To the south west of Perpignan is the small town of Ceret, which was another artist colony. It was the center of the Cubism movement and today is home to a small modern art museum devoted to this artist school of design. Nearby is the town of Mont Louis, which is the highest fortified settlement in France. It was built in the Middle Ages and much of its old ramparts and fortress are still present. Visitors can take in the surrounding countryside like the knights of old. The Catalan culture of Southern France remains very popular in the town of Collioure and this is evident in the numerous spring and fall Catalan folklore festivals that take place on the weekends of April and May, and again in September. This is when you can the locals dressed in traditional clothing. It is a time of music, food and good festivities. The city also has a very sacred past and this includes a large festival for the Easter weekend, which begins on Good Friday with a Sanch Procession past the Notre Dame des Anges Church and through the village streets. This also includes chorals on Saturday and Sunday.Bastille Day is celebrated each July 14 and this includes parades, dances and more food. This French national holiday does mean that some museums and other attractions might be closed however.The Christmas holiday season begins with La Cour de Noel, which takes place around the second weekend of December. This is held in the Chateau Royal and includes a Christmas marketplace with vendors and attractions.
