Travel Reviews on Italy
Magnificent Apartment in Magnificent Italy
Stay in the very heart of Italy in this delightful self catering apartment in Ascoli Piceno in the Le Marche region which has Italy's most beautiful piazzas one of these is Piazza del Popolo. Renaissance reconstructions brought it to its current state of beauty, equally dazzling in the sunlight and moonlight, as each plays differently upon the smooth, shiny travertine and the colonnades. Neatly ordered and enclosed by the surrounding buildings, it is the town's greatest gathering spot. The impressive Palazzo dei Capitani dominates the piazza's west end and frequently houses art exhibits or special civic events. The three-story inner courtyard of loggias is lovely. Next to the main entrance to the right is a door leading to the Roman ruins below. The church of San Francesco and its high bell towers form the northern end of the piazza. At the confluence of two rivers, the city is mostly flat, facilitating easy walking. Ascoli Piceno's centro storico retains much of the original Roman grid layout making it fairly easy to find one's way around, but has enough influence from the Middle Ages to offer a lot of intriguing, narrow streets called rue to delightfully wander. Le Marche provides a taste of real Italy, with welcoming locals, fabulous art and genuine Italian cuisine. The 180 km of Adriatic coastline is a beautiful destination for beach holidays too, and there are options for lively bustling beach resorts, or secluded, peaceful beautiful cove beaches. Whatever your choice of beach, Le Marche will provide you with exactly what you are after. The mountainous regions, especially in the south, are some of the most scenic places to walk in the whole of Italy. The wild mountains are often capped with snow late into the spring, and a visit to the limestone caves of Frasassi Caves will leave you in awe. The footpaths and cycle routes in the Sibillini National Park are adventurous and take you deep into the Italian countryside, and you will certainly not be disappointed by the nature and masterpieces of Renaissance art and architecture are everywhere Le Marche is a temperate region, with hot summers, with average temperatures reaching 25°C in July and August, but winters are cold, ensuring great skiing conditions, with temperatures dipping below freezing occasionally in November until February, so taking a Marche villa for the winter will ensure good skiing so something for everyone
